The Last Waltz

A bit of nostalgia today with my version of Engelbert’s ‘The Last Waltz’. This is a song that reminds me of Sunday afternoons when Mum would put a bit of Engelbert on while cooking the Sunday roast.

It’s easy to dismiss Engelbert as cheesy kitsch because of his ridiculous stage name and schlager-style schmaltz, but Gerry Dorsey has an amazing voice. It’s also a shame he never achieved as much in more recent times as his rival, Tom Jones, but back in the 60s they were both megastars. The Last Waltz was one of Engelbert’s biggest hits, 50 years ago, it spent five weeks at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart and sold over 1.17 million copies in the UK.

When I sing this stuff I really appreciate how much of an amazing voice this guy has. Not only that; handsome, a lovely tan and a big hairy chest. It’s just a shame about the name!

I hope you like it… and thanks for listening x
